Replacing the high-voltage (HV) battery in a Model 3 is a complex process. Here’s an overview of what you need to know:

When to Replace the Battery

  • Decreased Range: Noticeable drop in driving range.

  • Battery Health: Significant degradation in battery health as indicated by diagnostics.

  • Error Messages: Persistent battery-related warning messages.

Battery Replacement Process

  1. Diagnosis: A thorough diagnostic check to confirm the need for replacement.

  2. Preparation: Disconnecting the vehicle from any power source and ensuring safety protocols are followed.

  3. Removal:

    • Lift the car and remove the under-body panels.

    • Disconnect the battery connectors and remove mounting bolts.

    • Carefully extract the battery pack from the vehicle.

  4. Installation:

    • Place the new or refurbished battery pack in position.

    • Reconnect the battery connectors and secure the pack with bolts.

    • Replace under body panels.

  6. Firmware Update and/or Reinstall

  7. Level 2 Charging of the HV Battery

  8. Testing: Reconnect the vehicle, perform a systems check, and test drive to ensure everything is functioning correctly.
